Telecommunicators have a very large responsibility to answer emergency calls every day. Determining what type of emergency is occurring and which responders should be sent can be difficult in some circumstances. Many telecommunicators receive training on how to deal with medical emergencies but those classes fail to go further in-depth into medical terminology and what it can mean to the telecommunicator and the responders. This course dives into various topics in order to expand a telecommunicators’ knowledge of basic medicine, signs and symptoms to recognize, basic medical terminology, common medical conditions and how this information can affect a call.
Course topics include:
• General Anatomy
• Common Medical Conditions
• Traumatic Injuries
• Psychiatric Problems
• How and when medical terminology is used
• Benefits to understanding basic medical terminology
